Headache Relief

Natural Headache Relief via Massage Therapy

There have been a variety of massage tools created that claim to provide instant headache relief, migraine relief, and other forms of head and neck tension. If you’re someone who suffers from frequent headaches, then these various headache relief products could be just what you’ve been looking for.

The majority of the headache relief massage tools are based on the acupressure points of the hands. Apparently, there is a particular acupressure point in the hand, called the “Hegu” (or “Hoku LI4”), that provides headache relief when stimulated. The LI4 pressure point is located on the webbed part of the hand between the thumb and index finger. This particular product is a clamp that is placed on the skin between the thumb and index finger. It’s fully adjustable and is designed to provide pressure and stimulation to the LI4 acupressure point. The clamp has been proven highly effective for relieving tension headaches.

Another headache relief device that is based on the same acupressure therapy concept is versions of the “anti-headache band”. The band stimulates the same Hoku LI4 acupressure point located on the skin web between the thumb and index finger. The acupressure band is wrapped around the palm of your hand and hooks over the thumb and supplies a constant, deep pressure to the LI4 acupressure point. The band also comes with full instructions for easy, effective use.

Acupressure has been recognized as a safe and alternative headache treatment by the “National Migraine Foundation”, and the “National Headache Foundation”. For people who do not feel safe or do not enjoy taking drugs to relieve their migraine pain, then acupressure therapy is a great alternative.

Massage oils are another option to relieve headache pain. Essential oils have been known to have some sort of magical healing power on the body. It only makes sense then, that there is a specific essential oil blended especially to soothe the pain of headaches, migraines, and accompanying symptoms. The headache relief massage oil is rubbed into the temples, and on the base of the skull at the back of the neck. Another option would be to add a splash of the essential oil to your bath. You can purchase the oils in pre-diluted bottles for quick and easy application (the bottle has a massage base added to the oil) or in undiluted versions.

Yet another massage therapy technique used for headache relief is trigger point therapy. There is an area of muscles around your neck, upper back, and shoulder region that are the culprits that refer pain to your brain, which causes headaches. But with trigger point therapy, pressure can be applied to these major muscles groups to provide release and relaxation, which in turn reduces the frequency and intensity of your headaches. There are a variety of hand-held massagers and pressure point massagers that can assist with the headache relief.
