Integrative Massage

Integrative massage therapy is a treatment that involves the integration of therapy techniques from a number of different modalities including massage, somatic therapy and bodywork techniques. Some of the other therapy techniques that may be incorporated are touch therapy, psychotherapy, movement re-patterning, stress management, reflective listening, hypnotherapy, and energy work approaches.

The specific combination of techniques will depend on the patient, as each session is specially design to meet the needs of the individual.

The patient takes an active role in the therapy, working closely with the therapist. Touch plays an important role as it allows for the therapist and the client to form a strong bond and connection throughout the sessions. This is vital for the release and flow of life energies between the bodies and for the healing process to occur. When the patient is comfortable with their therapist and feels safe in the treatment environment, they are more likely to open up to the experience and encourage the best results of the treatment.

The integrative massage technique is based on the idea that not just one massage is right for every person or can solve every problem. That is why through using a variety of techniques every individual problem of the body can be targeted and addressed with its own approach, producing optimal results.

A typical integrative massage session is very open in structure. As a team, you and the therapist will meet and discuss what you are looking for and what techniques will best suit your needs. During the first session, you will also discuss the goals for the treatment and how often or how many sessions will be needed. Usually an initial number of sessions are recommended (usually between four and six) to allow the therapist to gain information about the patient and to determine the best therapeutic techniques for treatment.

This technique has been used to benefit patients with lower back pain, migraines, chronic pain, unhealthy habits, phobias and skin diseases. Integrative massage has also been shown to help those with depression, eating disorders, sexual difficulties, distorted self-images, and traumatic events.

Integrative massage is beneficial for anyone who wants to enjoy life to the fullest, physically, mentally and spiritually.  Integrative massage can help anyone transition towards a better life.
