Jin Shin Jyutsu
Jin shin jyutsu is an ancient Japanese art form that has been called an art of living. Being a long lost ancient tradition, it was rediscovered in the beginning of the twentieth century by Master Jiro Murain, and was brought to North American in the 1950’s by Mary Burmeister.
Jin shin jyutsu is translated into, “art of the creator through man of knowing and compassion.” It is known as the art of releasing energy tensions that are the cause of symptoms in the body. Jin shin jyutsu is based on the idea that our bodies have many different energy pathways that bring life and good health to all the cells. When these energy pathways become blocked it can have damaging effects on the body. This could cause anything from pain to illness.
Through the process of jin shin jyutsu we become aware of the energy pathways and life forces of our body and learn the ability that we have to balance ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually, and to achieve harmony through balanced energy.
The art form uses a system of twenty-six “safety energy locks” that are located along the energy pathways of your body. When one of these safety locks become blocked, then discomfort can occur. Therefore, during a jin shin jyutsu session the therapist will apply light pressure to the safety energy locks using the fingertips to unblock the tension, bring relaxation and promote harmony and balance. The main goal is to restore a harmonious flow of energy along the pathways.
Typically a jin shin jyutsu session lasts about one hour in length and the patient remains clothed during the treatment. It doesn’t involve the use of any tools, substances or massage. It basically consists of the gentle yet powerful art of pressing the fingertips onto the energy locks in a certain combination, for the release of blocked energy. The session begins with the measuring of the pulse which provides information about the patient’s current state of being and energy flow. The pulse helps to show the practitioner the energy points that need to be helped in order for harmonious energy flow to be restored. The practitioner’s job is not to diagnose, but to harmonize. The remainder of the session consists of the pressing of certain combinations of energy points until full harmony is restored.
It is a very simple art form with astounding results. The treatment involves no pain or manipulation of the body. It has been used to relieve pain and discomfort, joint problems, reproductive difficulties, and respiratory conditions. It heals the body physically, mentally and spiritually as many people often have a spiritual experience during the treatment. With the elimination of stress following a jin shin jyutsu session, the patient walks away feeling relaxed, centered and has complete peace and oneness.
