Rosen Method
The Rosen method is a combination of bodywork and movement education developed by breath and physical therapy specialist, Marion Rosen.
Rosen method bodywork is used as a tool for stress reduction and to help the patient achieve a strong body-mind connection. The mind is able to understand and make a connection with the body through touch. It is a form of complimentary health care as it is often used in combination with some other type of treatment.
The bodywork is beneficial for those seeking relief from muscle tension, lower back pain, headaches, joint pain, insomnia, injuries, and some chronic conditions such as asthma. The treatment can also be beneficial to those who are healing from emotional traumas.
This method is distinguished from others by its use of direct, gentle touch. The listening hands of the therapist focus on areas of chronic muscle tension. The therapist then applies gentle touch to relieve the area of tension and discomfort and the patient begins to feel greatly relaxed and their breathing will deepen. During the session many unconscious memories and attitudes could emerge. Thus, the mind is being reached through the body by touch.
The therapists have been trained to notice any changes in the muscle tension as the session progresses. These are signs that the patient is becoming more relaxed and that they have become aware of their internal experiences. The therapist will then respond with words and touch to make the patient aware of what has remained unconscious in muscle tension. With numerous sessions the patient will get rid of old patterns of habitual tension allowing them to live a better life with painless body functioning.
Rosen movement classes are the other half of the method. They’re designed to improve movement, alignment, and flexibility. They are also good for improving breathing patterns, range of motion, and awareness of the body. Sessions can be taken individually or in group classes.
Rosen method movement therapy was developed to increase the health and strength of the body in order to prevent physical problems before they occur. It’s also helpful for keeping individuals more agile as they age. During a movement class, the instructor directs everyone through a series of exercises that are designed to use every joint in the body to ensure healthy functioning. Rosen Movement therapy has been proven to relieve muscle tension, and to improve posture, self-esteem and flexibility. These classes are restorative as well as preventative as they provide ease in movement, facilitate pleasure, increased oxygen flow, and increased circulation.
Since the exercises are completed with music, it makes the whole experience more like dancing and is fun and easy. Since it is like dance, the technique also improves balance and coordination. The movement classes combine the experience of well-being and relaxation into an action-packed program. The Rosen method helps people find joy and ease in their bodies.
