On Site Massage
Question:I am looking for some massage techniques for giving seated massages and also massage techniques for over clothes?
- Nick
These would be similar techniques I would use for what is called on site massage therapy.
- When performing on site massage you have to remember to use good posture yourself or you will tire quickly.
- A great on site massage position is to have the client seated in a chair backwards, leaning on a pillow on a table top. This will allow you to lunge into the client and this will be a much better position.
- Always start with light effleurage which is lightly running your hands up the back, from the buttocks to the neck, in the direction of blood flow towards the heart (10-20 times).
- You must always start lightly then progress to a little deeper massage. If you start the massage too deeply the muscles will react negatively.
- You can lightly squeeze the tops of the shoulders and along and down the arms and up to the neck (using a light touch close to the neck).
- Than progress to petrissage. Using the palm of your hand you can compress along either side of the spine from the top of the buttock all the way to the base of the neck; repeating a few times and within the clients tolerance.
- Circular kneading massage can follow which is a circular motion along the same path with a more pointed finger or thumb and this will be even deeper.
- You can repeat this a few times, alternating between the massage techniques and ensure you always end with a cool down.
- For the cool down use light effleurage from the buttock up to the base of the neck (10-20 times).
- Light stroking is always a good way to end the massage; using very light soft finger tips.
For more information you can always look for massage books, massage videos and weekend massage therapy courses offered in your area.
