School Encouragement

Question:

Hi, I'm in school at Nevada School of Massage Therapy and I was wondering if you had any good advice for me to help me get through school. What helped you?
- Tiffany

Answer:

Massage School can be very intense at times and writing final exams is very nerve-wracking. Here's some tips that helped me:

  • Never give up. Leave the books and go for a walk to clear your head.
  • Study in short periods - often.
  • Form study groups. Sometimes talking about the subject can make it seem clearer.
  • Make charts and games out of certain muscle groups or body systems, ie. SITS muscles, which are the rotator cuff muscles.
  • Write out cue cards and carry them with you. Consult them throughout the day.
  • Take one course at a time. Keep focused on one subject than take a break and move onto the next.
  • Receive massage as often as possible (it can help you relax and clear your mind, to help stay focused).
  • Get as much sleep as you can (you will retain more info if your brain is well rested).
  • Eat a well balanced diet.
  • Exercise regularly.

These are a few of the things that helped me get through Massage School, especially studying for the board exam!
