Body Massage Boundaries
Question:I am starting massage school. Currently I have clients who are asking for a more sensual body massage. I am not sure if this is legal, and I don't even have my massage licence yet. Any advice?
My advice to you would be to stay away from sensual massage if you are currently a Massage Therapy student. It is illegal if you are a registered Massage Therapist to provide sensual massage. Even though you aren't yet licensed you don't want to make a bad name for yourself providing sensual massages. In the province of Ontario, Canada, you aren't legally permitted to provide massages until you are fully licensed. If you do provide therapeutic massage and are reported, it can hinder your registration process or stop it completely.
Most Massage Schools have a student clinic where you can encourage clients to go for therapeutic massage. This way you can get some professional hands-on massage guidance and build up your clinical hours.
Your clients will understand!
