Body Wrap Treatments for Endometriosis
Question:
Have you ever heard of a desert heat body wrap? Do you know of any massages or body wraps that help with endometriosis? I've heard that the desert heat treatment can help relieve endometriosis.
Answer:
Endometriosis is a condition found in approximately 1 to 7% of all women in North America. This condition occurs when tissue, similar to that which lines the uterus (called the endometrium), is found outside the uterus. Endometriosis usually occurs in the abdomen on the ovaries, fallopian tubes and ligaments that support the uterus; on the area between the vagina and rectum; on the outer surface of the uterus; and on the lining of the pelvic cavity.
This misplaced tissue develops into growths or lesions; which respond to the menstrual cycle in the same way that the tissue of the uterine lining does. Each month the tissue builds up, breaks down and sheds. Menstrual blood flows from the uterus and out of the body through the vagina, but the blood and tissue shed from endometrial growths has no way of leaving the body. This results in internal bleeding, breakdown of the blood and tissue from the lesions, and inflammation. As a result endometriosis can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort. It can also lead to infertility, scaring, adhesion formation and bowel problems.
When treating endometriosis, the main goal is to treat the symptoms and side effects - such as lower back pain, abdominal pain, aches and inflammation.
A desert heat body wrap is a formula rich in copper, magnesium and zinc. Some of the properties associated with these minerals have been therapeutic for clients with endometriosis. A desert heat body wrap envelopes the body in a warm, soothing, bubbling cocoon. It's made with rich red seaweed and mineralizing desert mud; which soothes and relaxes the skin, tissues and any muscle tension. This holistic approach encourages healing and nourishing minerals to seep into the body; while the warm heat encourages aches, pain, fatigue and stress to flow out of the body. A desert body wrap also hydrates, nourishes and tones the skin's surface and gives it a healthy, vibrant glow.
Therapeutic massage is also recommended for endometriosis sufferers. When flare-ups occur, muscles in the lower back can go into a protective spasm; which can be very painful. A lower back massage (including the abdomen) can release muscular tension associated with endometriosis.
Thanks! Great question!
