Getting Started in Canada

Question:

I'm currently a massage therapist in Illinois. I'm considering moving to Canada. I was wondering if you would be able to offer any type of advice on getting started in Canada?

Answer:

To start your search you would want to contact the appropriate college, since every province has different regulations for Registered Massage Therapists. British Columbia has the highest requirements; they require 3,300 educational hours. Ontario is next, requiring 2,200 hours. However, if you become certified in B.C. you can then practice anywhere in Canada.

When researching your options with colleges in Canada keep in mind that you may be able to transfer credits from the school you attended in Illinois. There are not yet any national board exams in Canada, which should make your search easier.
